Verkada is a cloud-based, keyless, door access system that streamlines access and locks/security in your space. Coworks can seamlessly integrate into this door access system to help you manage and provision access from within the Coworks platform.

The purpose of this integration is to automatically create users in Verkada, with the appropriate access controls when adding new members to Coworks. This streamlines the member onboarding process and ensures that you and your staff only need to go to one place to add members and get them fully onboarded to your workspace. We also support and help manage temporary access for guests and visitors.

Here's how it works:

1. Sign up for Verkada

To get started with Verkada & Coworks, make sure you have an active Verkada Subscription with API access. If you need assistance with creating an account, please reach out to us at support@coworks.com

2. Create Verkada Access Levels,

In your Verkada account, Access Control Home, make sure to create some Access Levels with defined access to specific doors. We'll use these access levels to assign directly to Coworks members. This will grant members the appropriate doors and permissions related to those Access Levels.

Make sure to also enable Door Management via API in your Verkada Access settings.

3. Activate Verkada Integration

To activate the integration, navigate to our integrations page by clicking on the Community tab in the admin dashboard and then selecting the "Integrations" option from the top tabs. Once there, find the Verkada integration and click "Connect."

This will instruct you to enter your API key and organization subdomain.

Generating API Key

To get your API Key, go to your Verkada Access dashboard and complete the following steps:

  • Click on "Org Settings" in the top left menu

  • Click on "API & Integrations"

  • Click on "API Keys"

  • Click +Add to add a new key

  • Add the following endpoints: (see below screenshot)

    • Core Command (Read/Write)

    • Access Control (Read/Write)

    • Door Access Management (All Sites)

  • Click 'Generate API'

Copy that API Key and paste it into the Api Key field in Coworks.

NOTE: Your full API Key is only visible once. Please copy and paste immeidately before closing the window.

Your submdomain should be available in the url from your verkada account right before the '.command.verkada.com'. This is usually your organization's name or domain.

Add your key and subdomain and click 'save'.

Next, it will ask you to connect a "Site" from your Verkada account to the current campus in Coworks. This allows us to match each site in your account to a corresponding campus in Coworks.

Your integration should now be active!

4. Adding a Coworks member to Verkada

Note: If you would like us to "bulk" sync your Verkada account based on plan allocations, please reach out. This is a manual process, but we're happy to do it for you!

Once you've activated Verkada as an integration and connected your site to your campus, you're ready to start using the Verkada integration in Coworks.

The Coworks <> Verkada integration works by allowing you to automatically choose which Verkada access levls to assign to members as you add them in Coworks. This way, you don't have to manage multiple platforms and can perform all of your access needs directly within Coworks.

Add New Member / Add Member to an Existing Team

When adding a member, you can toggle on the "Add to Door Access" option and choose which door groups (access levels) to add them to (make sure those groups are created in Verkada).

Once added, the member will be automatically created in both Coworks and Verkada. They should receive an email from Verkada with details about downloading the Verkada app and signing in with their Coworks login. After finishing the account setup process, they will automatically have access to the doors you assigned to them during the creation.

Updating an existing Member

You can also set Verkada permissions to existing members by simply going to their profile page toggling on the "Add to Door Access" toggle and clicking "Save." If they've already been synced, you will see a link to take you to their profile in Verkada for edits if needed.

Once a member is linked to Verkada, you will see a link in their Coworks profile that says "Edit in Verkada." Clicking this link will take you directly to that user in the Verkada dashboard and allow you to troubleshoot/edit their access directly.

Adding Members who sign up via the public plan form

If you're using our public plans/signup feature, it allows members to sign up for Coworks all on their own. You can also indicate whether those members get auto-provisioned access to your space. You can also control different access groups for different plans.

To do this:

  • Go to the plan that is listed publicly.

  • Once the public signup toggle is enabled, you will be given a section for "Door Access Control."

  • From there, select "Enable automatic door access" to enable auto access permissions to people who sign up for this plan.

  • Finally, choose a door group to assign to the member who signs up for this plan.

5. Removing Coworks members from Verkada

If you deactivate a member in Coworks, they will automatically lose their Verkada access.

Please Note: Cancelling a membership will not automatically revoke that member's Verkada access. You would need to either deactivate the member in Coworks, or manually edit their access within Verkada.

6. Temporary Access For Visitors
