How To Use Member Groups

How to add members to custom groups, send email & text announcements to those groups, and share events to custom member groups.

Coworks is the number one tool for managing the members and teams within your community. With the member groups feature, you can better organize, sort, and communicate with subsections of your community.

Here's how it works:

Creating Member Groups

  1. Go to the Community tab in the admin dashboard, and choose the "Directory" option from the left.

  2. Towards the bottom of the page, click "Edit" next to the Member Groups section.

  3. You can create multiple groups and name them whatever you like. Choose "Add option" to create new groups. Members can be a part of multiple groups at once. Press "Save" when finished.

Assigning Members To Groups

Once you've made your member groups, you can now assign members to those groups. To do this, go to the member's profile and click "Edit". Towards the bottom of the page there is a "Group" section where you can assign the member different member groups.

Members can be assigned to multiple groups at once. Simply choose from the Group dropdown.

Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to finish assigning the member to the group(s).

Filtering the Directory

Once members are assigned to groups, you can filter the directory by member groups to easily see which members are in certain groups. Head to the directory here and select the "Filters" option to filter by groups.

Send Messages/Announcements To Groups

One of the major benefits of member groups is the ability to seamlessly send custom announcements (emails, push notifications, or texts) to a subsection of your community.

To do this, simply head to the Announcements page and click "New Announcement." After selecting your announcement type, you'll see a new "Groups" tab in the recipients list. You can send messages to all members of or portions of a group, and can send to multiple member groups at once.

Sharing Events To Member Groups

With member groups, you can also share events directly to member groups in your community. For example, say you are creating a CEO breakfast event that you want to only share with a portion of your members.

To do this, head to your Calendar and create a new event. In the visibility settings, make sure to toggle on "Share to Members" to make the event visible in the member app. From there, choose the "By Member Groups" option to share the event only to those specific member groups.

After saving the event, that event will now be visible in the member app only to members who are in the shared groups.
