Avigilon Alta (formerly OpenPath) is a cloud-based, keyless, door access system that streamlines access and locks/security in your space. Coworks can seamlessly integrate into this door access system to help you manage and provision access from within the Coworks platform.
The purpose of this integration is to automatically create users in Avigilon Alta, with the appropriate access controls when adding new members to Coworks. This streamlines the member onboarding process and ensures that you and your staff only need to go to one place to add members and get them fully onboarded to your workspace. We also support and help manage temporary access for guests and visitors.
Here's how it works:
1. Sign up for an Avigilon Alta Subscription + API access
To get started with Avigilon Alta & Coworks, make sure you have an active Avigilon Alta Subscription with API access. If you need assistance with creating an account please reach out to us at support@coworks.com
2. Create Avigilon Alta Zones
In your Avigilon Alta account, create zones to represent your different access groups. A zone
represents a group of doors (entries), and is also the unit of entry
access permissions. Each zone
has an associated list of users and groups who are granted permission to unlock/open the doors/entries in that zone
.
When adding a user to a zone, that user will be granted access to the doors in that zone with the associated access permissions.
We recommend creating zones that mirror your Coworks plans so you can stay organized. e.g.
Coworking - Day
Coworking - Nights & Weekends
Suites
Doing this will allow you to bulk change access permissions when you add new doors, or remove doors without having to go to every member and change permissions.
3. Activate Avigilon Alta Integration
To activate the integration, navigate to our integrations page by clicking on the Community tab in the admin dashboard and then selecting the "Integrations" option from the top tabs. Once there, find the Avigilon Alta integration and click "Connect."
This will then instruct you to login with your Avigilon Alta credentials. Enter your email and password used for your Avigilon account and click "Connect"
Be sure to use a login from the admin user on the account.
Next, it will ask you to connect a "Site" from your Avigilon Alta account to the current campus in Coworks. This allows us to match each site in your account to a corresponding campus in Coworks.
Your integration should now be active!
4. Adding a Coworks member to Avigilon Alta
Note: If you would like us to "bulk" sync your Avigilon Alta account based on plan allocations, please reach out. This is a manual process, but we're happy to do it for you!
Once you've activated Avigilon Alta as an integration and connected your site to your campus, you're ready to start using the Avigilon Alta integration in Coworks.
The Coworks <> Avigilon Alta integration works by allowing you to automatically choose which Avigilon Alta door groups to assign to members as you add them in Coworks. This way, you don't have to manage multiple platforms and can perform all of your access needs directly within Coworks.
Add New Member / Add Member to an Existing Team
When adding a member, you can toggle on the "Add to Door Access" option and choose which door groups (zones) to add them to (make sure those groups are created in Avigilon Alta).
Once added, the member will be automatically created in both Coworks and Avigilon Alta. They should receive an email from Avigilon Alta with details about downloading the Avigilon Alta app (Openpath) and signing in with their Coworks login. After finishing the account setup process, they will automatically have access to the doors you assigned to them during the creation.
Updating an existing Member
You can also set Avigilon Alta permissions to existing members by simply going to their profile page toggling on the "Add to Door Access" toggle and clicking "Save." If they've already been synced, you will see a link to take you to their profile in Avigilon Alta for edits if needed.
Once a member is linked to Avigilon Alta, you will see a link in their Coworks profile that says "Edit in Avigilon Alta." Clicking this link will take you directly to that user in the Avigilon Alta dashboard and allow you to troubleshoot/edit their access directly.
Adding Members who sign up via the public plan form
If you're using our public plans/signup feature, it allows members to sign up for Coworks all on their own. You can also indicate whether those members get auto-provisioned access to your space. You can also control different access groups for different plans.
To do this:
Go to the plan that is listed publicly.
Once the public signup toggle is enabled, you will be given a section for "Door Access Control."
From there, select "Enable automatic door access" to enable auto access permissions to people who sign up for this plan.
Finally, choose a door group to assign to the member who signs up for this plan.
5. Removing Coworks members from Avigilon Alta
If you deactivate a member in Coworks, they will automatically lose their Avigilon Alta access.
Please Note: Cancelling a membership will not automatically revoke that member's Avigilon Alta access. You would need to either deactivate the member in Coworks, or manually edit their access within Avigilon Alta.
6. Temporary Access For Visitors
Coworks also supports the ability to grant temporary access for guests and visitors who have booked your space. This is specifically useful for managing access from Day Pass purchases and External Bookings.
